What Is an EMR?
Hey everyone and welcome back! So, let’s talk EMR.
We hear the talk saying, “Get an EMR,” but what does that mean? What is an EMR? Who needs it? Should you be using one?
Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is the digital version of a clients’ chart which is maintained and managed by the caring provider. Structured through a computer software they are designed to capture, store and retrieve client information. Some more easily than others. Often used in office, clinic, and hospital settings they contain notes and other information that have been obtained by the caring professional to properly assess, diagnosis and provide treatment.
As we shift to a “greener” society the concept of digital resources is becoming more and more prevalent. Many caring professions including, doctors, social workers, psychologist, and more already find themselves in a paper-intensive document field. Client documentation is one of the most time-consuming facets in these fields. Enter…the EMRs! Designed to reduce the stress and ease the pain of documentation, record tracking and retrieval, and more, EMRs are beneficial in helping reduce the workload and stress. Imagine, after an appointment, you can easily record your session information, and you don’t have to waste time writing things repeatedly like the client’s name, DOB, or other identifying information. Even more, once you’re all done documenting everything is legible, and spelling and grammar checked. Additionally, when you need to recall some information, you can easily with the stroke of a few keys pull up information from weeks, months, or years ago.
Historically, the standard EMR has been a medical based model. Presently, there exists EMR’s for mental and behavioral based services. Currently, EMR’s are highly recommended for any health and caring professional or agency where documentation is a job requirement. Those providing service through private practice, small groups or even agencies would benefit and should consider using an EMR.
Interested in an EMR? Consider the Creative Case Manager (CCM). The CCM is an EMR specifically designed for the community of social services, mental health, and behavioral health needs. Designed for social workers, therapist and counselors of various size agencies, individual and small group practices. Designed for the behavioral and mental health professional, get more of what you need all in one place.
Remember, the ease of access to client records results in improved client care!
